The Saint Isaac’s Cathedral

St. Isaac's Cathedral was originally the city's main church and the largest cathedral in Russia. It was built between 1818 and 1858, by the French-born architect Auguste Montferrand, to be one of the most impressive landmarks of the Russian Imperial capital. One hundred and eighty years later the gilded dome of St.Isaac's still dominates the skyline of St. Petersburg. Although the cathedral is considerably smaller than the newly rebuilt Church of Christ the Savior in Moscow, it boasts much more impressive fades and interiors.

The cathedral's facades are decorated with sculptures and massive granite columns (made of single pieces of red granite), while the interior is adorned with incredibly detailed mosaic icons, paintings and columns made of malachite and lapis lazuli.

Admiralty

The Admiralty is one of St. Petersburg’s oldest buildings. The gilt ship-shaped wind-vane that crowns the steeple is internationally known as a symbol of St. Petersburg. The Admiralty symbolizes the greatness of Russia as a naval power. Located in front of the Admiralty, the Aleksandrovsky Garden was founded in the times of Alexander II and in his honor.

Pete-and-Paul Fortress

Peter and Paul Cathedral is the oldest church in St. Petersburg; building started within a month of the city's foundation on 29 June 1703. It was completed on 1 April 1704 and dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Peter and Paul Fortress is the Imperial burial-vault: it contains the remains of almost all the Russian Emperors and Empresses. Marble sarcophagi are installed over the graves of the Tsars and members of their families.

Kazan Cathedral

Built between 1801 and 1811 to Voronikhin's design to house the miracle-working icon of Our Lady of Kazan (the icon is now kept in the Prince Vladimir Cathedral). Kazan Cathedral was constructed in the shape of a Latin cross: the side facing Nevsky Prospekt boasts a colonnade of 96 columns. Regular exhibitions are held concerning the Orthodox Church and ecclesiastical art.

The Savior-on-the-Blood

This marvelous Russian-style church was built on the spot where Emperor Alexander II was assassinated on March 1 in 1881. Constructed between 1883 and 1907, the church was designed in the spirit of sixteenth- and seventeenth century Russian architecture, inspired particularly by St Basil's Cathedral on Red Square in Moscow. The interior of the church, a memorial to the late Emperor Alexander II, was decorated with different shades of marble and several thousand square yards of mosaic.

After the October Revolution of 1917 the church met the sad fate the vast majority of the country's churches and was closed for services in the late 1920s. It was suggested many times that the church be torn down. It is a miracle that the church survived this period. This has to be one of the city's most beautiful sights and a great spot for taking pictures. There are also lots of souvenir stalls nearby.

Russian Museum

Russian Museum was founded in 1895 by decree of Nicolas II and opened in the Mikhailovsky Palace on March, 1898.

Russian Museum is Russia’s first state museum of national fine arts. With its collection comprising around 400,000 pieces, the Russian Museum is now the world’s largest depository of works by Russian artist.

Russian museum now - it is the unique promptuary of artist objects, the center of restoration, the established institute for scientific research, one of major centers of cultural and enlightenment, the center of cultural and enlightenment work.

The State Hermitage

The Hermitage Museum is Russia's best gallery of world art, one of the most prominent art museums in the world and definitely the main tourist attraction of St. Petersburg. The museum was founded in 1764 when Catherine the Great purchased a collection of 255 paintings from the German.

The main building of the Hermitage Museum is the Winter Palace, which was once the main residence of the Russian Tsars. The Baroque Winter Palace was built between 1754 and 1762 and its first resident was none other than the celebrated Catherine the Great. Some of the best Russian and most famous foreign architects worked exhaustively to ensure that this Imperial residence was one of the finest and most luxurious palaces in the world.

Today, the Hermitage boasts over 2.7 million exhibits and displays a diverse range of art and artifacts from all over the world and from throughout history (from Ancient Egypt to the early 20th century Europe). The Hermitage's collections include works by Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, a unique collection of Rembrandts and Rubens, many French Impressionist works by Renoir, Monet and Pissarro.

How to get visa support?

All foreign citizens visiting Russian Federation should have a passport and visa valid for the whole period of your stay.

It is not a secret that receipting Russian visa is quite difficult procedure and it takes a lot of time. That is why we recommend you to prepare collection of documents beforehand.

The documents – visa and passport - will be checked at the airport on entering and departure Russian Federation, while checking-in at the hotel, boarding on the train and ships on local and international lines.

There are different types of visa, which are depend upon your purpose of visit, for example: tourism, business, studying, working, transit, diplomatic and some another.

It is possible to get a visa for a single entry visit or multiple visas for the period from some days until one year.

Russian visa is issued by Russian Embassy in the country of your citizen or residence in virtue to the official invitation letter.

The following documents should be presented to the Russian Embassy:

- Filled in application form (the purpose should by specify as “tourism”)
- Passport valid 6 month after your departure from Russian Federation with 2 pages for Russian Visa
- One photo (3 x 4 cm)
- Visa Support Documents (Hotel Confirmation and voucher). The Embassy has the right to ask for the original of invitation.
